Breaking News - Pope Allegedly Ordered Knights of Malta Grand Master to Resign

Shocking news! One Peter Five has more on this story:-

"It would seem that Malta has become the battleground where some of the deepest divisions in the Church have been playing out. From Cardinal Burke’s exile to the role of Patronus of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the landmark Maltese bishops’ guidelines on Amoris Laeititia to the battle that’s been going on between the order and Rome after the Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta, Albrecht Boeselager, was forced out following the revelation of his involvement in the distribution of condoms, it seems to be one thing after another in the tiny Mediterranean island nation.

But now, the “knights who won’t retreat” have done exactly this, with the order’s Grand Master, Fra’ Matthew Festing, having resigned his post today at the request of Pope Francis. The position of Grand Master is for life, making this move — especially after the order’s strong statement of resistance to a Vatican inquiry — very strange.

The official website of the order does not yet have the announcement in their news section, and the above-linked report from the Spanish-language website InfoVaticana is notably sparse, consisting mostly of background, with the exception of the following sentence:

Acccording to what InfoVaticana has heard, Pope Francis has asked him to offer his resignation.

Communion on the Tongue Is an Apostolic Tradition

Statements from Popes, Saints and Church Councils:

St. Sixtus 1 (circa 115): “The Sacred Vessels are not to be handled by others than those consecrated to the Lord.”

St. Basil the Great, Doctor of the Church (330-379): “The right to receive Holy Communion in the hand is permitted only in times of persecution.” St. Basil the Great considered Communion in the hand so irregular that he did not hesitate to consider it a grave fault.

The Council of Saragossa (380): Excommunicated anyone who dared continue receiving Holy Communion by hand. This was confirmed by the Synod of Toledo.

The Synod of Rouen (650): Condemned Communion in the hand to halt widespread abuses that occurred from this practice, and as a safeguard against sacrilege.

6th Ecumenical Council, at Constantinople (680-681): Forbade the faithful to take the Sacred Host in their hand, threatening transgressors with excommunication.

St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274): “Out of reverence towards this Sacrament [the Holy Eucharist], nothing touches it, but what is consecrated; hence the corporal and the chalice are consecrated, and likewise the priest’s hands, for touching this Sacrament.” (Summa Theologica, Part III, Q. 82, Art. 3, Rep. Obj. 8.)

The Council of Trent (1545-1565): “The fact that only the priest gives Holy Communion with his consecrated hands is an Apostolic Tradition.”

Pope Paul VI (1963-1978): “This method [on the tongue] must be retained.” (Memoriale Domini)

Pope John Paul II: “To touch the sacred species and to distribute them with their own hands is a privilege of the ordained.” (Dominicae Cenae, 11)

ZUHLIO RETURNS! “Cardinal Kasper Will Accompany Me”

17_01_05_zuhlio-cardinal-kasper-will-accompany-me

Fr. Z confirms that Zulio has returned! Fr. states:-

"It is my pleasure to release at long last the super ultra exclusive new hit from the always backward-looking performance artist Zuhlio!
I had note from Zuhlio, who has been pensive of late:
I’ve been pensive of late. Just ponder about the great contributions that His Eminence Walter Card. Kasper has been making to the Church for so many… so very many many many years.  It’s seems like such a long time that he’s been making contributions and we just can’t have enough of them.  He’s been, God bless him, lowering the standards for living our faith for so very many many many years.   I had to find a way to honor him.  What’s better than… a song?

Thus spake Zuhlio.   He quickly teamed up with his old colleague from back in the day, The Ineffable TTF to produce what will surely be yet another platinum hit.
You recall some of Zuhlio’s previous hits, which you without question whistle on the way to those nightly adoration hours.  Who can forget “Where Have All the Sisters Gone?”  How about “Lady Tambourine Priest”?  How about his even bigger hit song from his urban rapper phase “Aging Hippie Paradise”.  And then there was the classic: “I am the very model of a modern ultramontanist!” Will we ever forget “Fifty Ways To Rig A Synod“?

And now the moment you’ve been waiting for."

Head of CDF Cardinal Muller Warns Against Ideological Efforts to Change Doctrine since Vatican II

EWTN News UK writes:-

"Cardinal Müller has warned that ideological efforts to change doctrine since Vatican II were deeply misguided because they attempted to subject the Word of God to the pride and prejudice of individuals. Cardinal Müller, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, made his remarks in an address at the presentation of the latest volume of Joseph Ratzinger’s complete works at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.

In the light of Vatican II Cardinal Müller explained the differences between ideologies being imposed on the Church and genuine theology:

“Ideology is always a proud attempt to subject the Word of God and the doctrine of the Church to the prejudice of one’s own thoughts, with the aim to obtain a manipulative power over the faithful and their lives. Theology is the humble reflection on faith that rises up from listening to the Word of God. Any fear that the Council might provoke a breach with the tradition of the Church is not only heretical: it would dismantle the meaning of supernatural mediation.”

Cardinal Müller characterized the period following the Second Vatican Council as a "conflict between theology and ideology":

"The expected Pentecostal renewal was replaced by the perspective of a ‘Babylonic’ confession of faith and by the attempt to contradict the thought of the theological school. All of this was not a work of the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit always listens to the Church in love and truth. Defecting from faith and counterfeiting faith, and the division from the Church that follows, are fruits of another spirit that is not the Spirit of God."

When Catholics Suffer they Turn to Our Lady and her Rosary

 Source:https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Our_Lady_of_F%C3%A1tima

Great article from Deacon Nick Donnelly at EWTN UK. He writes:-

"When Catholics are really suffering, really going through a dark time, many, if not most, turn to Our Lady and her Rosary. This is a common Catholic experience for two reasons — we know Mary is our mother and we also know that we can get closer to Jesus through His mother.
Deep down we relate to Mary as our Mother.  Maybe without even knowing it we live the reality of Jesus word’s from the Cross:

“When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, ‘Woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother’. From that time on, this disciple took her into His home. (Jn 19:26).

Mary wants to come into our home.  Mary wants to be part of our lives.  Mary wants us all to know her mother’s love and care.

The other reason is that we know that when we get close to Mary, we get close to Jesus in a special way.  In a way that’s different to when we approach him directly. Pope St John Paul II described this special way of getting close to Jesus.  He explained that the Rosary provides us with a way of moving closer to Jesus through sharing the life and memories of His Mother. Pope St John Paul writes that Mary’s memories of Jesus, impressed upon her heart throughout their life together, became the ‘rosary’ she pondered and prayed in the silence of her heart."

2017 is the 100th Anniversary of Fatima. "We would be mistaken to think that Fatima’s prophetic mission is complete." Pope Benedict XVI

 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Benedictus_XVI#/media/File:Benedykt_XVI_i_Lech_Kaczy%C5%84ski_modlitwa.jpg

A few years ago Pope Benedict gave a sermon in Fatima about the incompleteness of the message of Fatima and how it is still unfolding:-

"We would be mistaken to think that Fatima’s prophetic mission is complete. Here there takes on new life the plan of God which asks humanity from the beginning: “Where is your brother Abel […] Your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground!” (Gen 4:9). Mankind has succeeded in unleashing a cycle of death and terror, but failed in bringing it to an end… In sacred Scripture we often find that God seeks righteous men and women in order to save the city of man and he does the same here, in Fatima, when Our Lady asks: “Do you want to offer yourselves to God, to endure all the sufferings which he will send you, in an act of reparation for the sins by which he is offended and of supplication for the conversion of sinners?” (Memoirs of Sister Lúcia, I, 162).

At a time when the human family was ready to sacrifice all that was most sacred on the altar of the petty and selfish interests of nations, races, ideologies, groups and individuals, our Blessed Mother came from heaven, offering to implant in the hearts of all those who trust in her the Love of God burning in her own heart. At that time it was only to three children, yet the example of their lives spread and multiplied, especially as a result of the travels of the Pilgrim Virgin, in countless groups throughout the world dedicated to the cause of fraternal solidarity. May the seven years which separate us from the centenary of the apparitions hasten the fulfilment of the prophecy of the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to the glory of the Most Holy Trinity."

Sovereign Order of Malta says 'No' to Pope's Commission to investigate sacking of Chancellor

Image: wikicommons

From Deacon Nick Donnelly EWTN UK:-

"The Grand Magistry of the Sovereign Order of Malta has issued a statement making it clear that the Holy See does not have the authority to appoint a commission to investigate the replacement of the former Grand Chancellor. This statement was in response to the Holy See's Secretariat of State announcing that Pope Francis had appointed a team to investigate the removal of the Order’s Grand Chancellor, Albrecht von Boeselager."
